ABOUT LAREE WASSON

I'm a self-taught Australian artist from Newcastle. My love for art come naturally at a very young age and my passion for travel became stronger after I was accepted into a short drawing course in Venice, Italy at Europe di Design in 2012. In 2019, my partner and I decided to quit our jobs and sell all of our belongings to travel our beautiful home country.

My art has always been inspired by my travels and it is something I am very proud of. My new collection "Australia" is no different. I decided in this collection detail was my main goal as I absolutely love detailed fine line art. I was able to express at my full, happy self in this collection. Enjoy!

As always, thank you for supporting my small business!

"I remember when I was seven years old, we had to draw our house for school competition, I won which I was surprised about however my teacher at the time told my parents that I was 'above average' at art and should enrol me in art school. Ever since then my love and passion for art grow bigger and stronger.."

Laree enrolled in an art school located in Maitland at an early age, under the guidance of Maria Kozaczynski McCaig, where she studied for over six years each Saturday morning. While attending Laree won various awards that her art teacher helped her enrol in including: Performance and Creative Arts Trophy 2005 (Year 6 School), Pokolbin Art Scrawl 2007, 2008 & 2009 - Encouragement Award Beresfield Art Show - Winner Section "H" Weston Art Show 2010 - Encouragement Award. Sadly due to family illness Maria discontinued Saturday art lessons, suggesting Laree continue her studies with another local artist, Kathy Brady. Laree attended Kathy’s art lessons for two years, leaving to focus on her HSC studies.

Throughout her career Laree has completed various commission work, from tattoo designs to surfboards to baby rooms. In 2010 Laree was lucky enough to lead a team of five artists to design artwork for the Rutherford Skate Park. This was a highlight for Laree as a young creative, who continued painting in her spare time while juggling three jobs and full time tertiary study from 2012. However, her greatest moment was accepting a placement to study overseas with AIM Overseas short drawing course in Venice, Italy, gaining credit for her university degree. Although she studied Food Science and Nutrition, AIM Overseas made a rare exception approving her application after viewing her artwork. The short course commenced early July for four weeks at the Instituto Europeo di Design, Venice, Italy. Laree visited various places and drew everything in sight such as: gothic churches, the Peggy Guggenhem Museum, Rialto Bridge, St Marco markets, Gallerie Dell' Accademia, Saint Mark's Basilica, Doge's Palace, Bridge of Signs and St Marco Square. She travelled to Murano, Lido, Torcello and Burano, islands off Venice, attending the Redentore Party, a street party along the grande canal. The experiences enriched Laree’s artistic eye for design, boldness and of course architecture, and filled her tummy with lots of pizza and gelato!

At the beginning of 2016 Laree began drawing mandala inspired artwork, posting her results on social media. Due to so much interest from her Facebook and Instagram page, Laree decided to sharing her artwork on other platforms, and that's how Laree Wasson Art was born.

Between 2016 and 2019, Laree was inspired by other small business owners who shared the same passion and interests of running a unique business. These businesses reached out to Laree to collaborate on various projects and murals. The list of collaborations are under the tap 'Collaborations.'

In 2019, Laree and her partner of seven years made the big and bold decision to pack up their lives into boxes, buy a small bus (their home on wheels), quit their jobs and travel their home country, Australia! This however meant that Laree Wasson Art website had to be closed down in the meantime until sorting out an alternatives. During this time, Laree designed various tattoos for customers from Mandala skulls to Iron Man Mandala inspired tattoos.

Laree Wasson Art is currently in the process of relaunching her new website with her new Mandala Map designs while traveling Australia. Relaunch will commence 31st of August 2019.

"I would like to give a huge shout to my parents for helping me grow my passion naturally and to my partner, Brent who gave me the greatest gift of time to help me work so hard on my small business (and for bringing me coffee and food while drawing and working). Thank you.

I hope my artwork bring you love and unity. Continue to lift yourself & others, and open your mind through travel. Always grateful, Laree."
